Communications chip maker Broadcom announced a first of its kind 5G WiFi Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system-on-a-chip that will bring faster 802.11ac connectivity with 2x2 MIMO to mobile devices. The Broadcom BCM4354 chip  is the first to implement 2×2 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) on a smartphone, bringing up to twice the Wi-Fi performance with 25 percent more power efficiency than the current 1x1 MIMO chips. Consumers expect a fast, always-on smartphone experience. Performance however can be degraded by many factors including how a phone is held or positioned. In the past, MIMO systems have solved these problems on tablets and larger devices by using multiple antennas. China government will be issuing 4G licences this fall. The largest world carrier in terms of customers, China Mobile has already started to experiment the TD-LTE network since April and will expand with a RMB +40 billion plan. China Mobile should have around 200 000 4G base stations by the end of 2013. In all likeliness, the two remaining carriers, China Telecom and China Unicom wont be there on the starting line up since they have not committed to the 4G yet. It wasnt too long ago that BlackBerry released a open heartfelt letter to its customers stating why they should stick with them and not give up on BlackBerry. Part of that letter also made mention of BBM for Android and iPhone which means that commitment is still high in that area. To further buttress this, BlackBerrys CMO, Frank Boulben spoke with Reuters and said that as a matter of fact, BlackBerry Messenger will be coming to Android and iPhone for real this time in matters of days. Its not clear how many days we are talking about here especially considering that the first launch which happened 3 weeks ago was a mess. However, Frank Boulben says that hes confident that BlackBerry was able to address the issue that plagued the initial launch. What does this suggest?
