Image
The world is going selfie mad so its about time Samsung joined the craze - and the Galaxy Grand Prime is seemingly the phone its going to use to do it. The selfie -centric phone was leaked by Vietnamese site thegioididong.com, which both posted pictures and revealed some apparent specs. Those include a 5.0-inch 540 x 960 display, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM. The Galaxy Grand Prime apparently runs Android 4.4 KitKat and is said to be equipped with an 8MP main camera which can record video in 1080p, but the star of the show is the 5MP front-facing camera, leaving it better equipped for selfies than most mid-range phones. Cheap shots Rounding out the specs theres apparently 8GB of built in storage, a microSD card slot and a 2600 mAh battery. According to the source it will arrive in Vietnam in October with a price of less than 5 million VND (£146 / $236 / AU$262). As yet theres no word on if or when it will head west, but if it does it will b...

First iOS 8 jailbreak now available for iPhone and iPad

Image
A jailbreak tool has been released for iOS 8 just over a month after Apple’s latest OS was first officially launched. The new software comes courtesy of Chinese tinkerers Team Pangu, and is the first jailbreak for the iOS 8 . The jailbreak gives anyone with the latest iOS software root admin access to their smartphone, circumcenting Apple’s standard user restrictions. Pangu says its jailbreak will work fine on both iOS 8 and the newly released iOS 8.1 update. The jailbreaker team also recommends backing up your device before you take the root access leap, just in case something goes wrong and causes data loss. Many users are complaining that the jailbreak has come too early, since Cydia software and English language are not currently available. Pangu may have rushed out the jailbreak tool to be remembered as the first hackers to crack the software. It took Team Evasi0n around three months to jailbreak Apple’s iOS 7 last year, although it launched with a much more solid build. It’s als...

Video on Instagram first impressions

Image
Instagram today unveiled a chic cure to capturing and sharing videos through its iOS and Android mobile apps, one that will no doubt give Twitter pause as to what it wants to do next with Vine. Called Video on Instagram, the feature is more nuanced than its GIF-y counterpart. The Twitter-owned, 6-second video taking Vine has its merits, but Instagrams take on video comes packing a few more features and lacking loops. In videos lasting up to 15 seconds and no less than three, users can apply one of 13 filters, pick a cover photo and erase the last clip they take. Those extra nine seconds touch on what CEO and Co-Founder Kevin Systrom referred to as the Goldilocks moment: Not too short, not too long. In a way, hes right, but at the end of the day theres only so much you can do with 15 seconds. On the flip side, theres also too much you can do, so whether Instagram has really hit on the social cinema sweet spot will be subject to the test of time and users patience. How it wor...
