Nokia Lumia 920

Nokia Lumia 920, released on November last year, still maintains a position in the smartphone market. Lumia 920 was praised as "The worlds most innovative smartphone" and topped the selling charts of many countries- a few months back! This Windows Phone operated device features Nokias super camera, stunning screen, an eye-catching design, a powerful processor and inductive charging support. Looking at the negative aspects of this bulky device, It has got an average battery, no expandable memory option, lacks featured apps and for some- It runs on Windows Phone OS. Today, there are many smartphones out in the market to compete with Lumia 920, even its Lumia brothers. Nokia released the Nokia Lumia 925, a lighter and thinner version of the Lumia 920 with an aluminum body and an improved camera.

BUILD / DESIGN

Nokia Lumia 900 is the successor of the design work of the Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 900, but here- the device became bigger. Lumia 920 like all other Lumia devices comes in a stunning and solid polycarbonate unibody design. With dimensions of 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7 mm Lumia 900 is bulkier and even weighs a lot with 185g.

The front sports the 4.5inch display. The Gorilla Glass front is gently curved to fit into the overall shape of the phone. Theres an earpiece grill and a front camera next to Nokia branding above the screen. Below the screen is a larger bezel with three capacitive touch buttons and some free space! The back has Nokia/ Carl Zeiss branding alongside the dual-LED flash. The back is obviously non-removable.

The sides of Lumia 920 is beautifully curved and is flat at the top and bottom. The physical keys- volume rocker, power-button and the camera button are all located on the right side. All the ports are on the flat sides. Micro-SIM slot and the 3.5mm headphone/mic jack is at the top edge, adjacent to a noise-cancelling microphone and the micro USB charging port flanked by two speakers is at the bottom edge.

The Lumia 920 comes in a variety of colors and a couple different finishes. Though the device is Bulky, it gives a premium feel in hand. The finish on the polycarbonate shell varies depending on color. The black and cyan models are elegant and scratch-resistant and Lumia 920 also comes in red, white, and yellow glossy shell.

DISPLAY

The Lumia 920 packs in a resolution of 768x1,280 pixels into its 4.5-inch IPS LCD display. The high resolution gives the 920 a pixel density of 332ppi. Nokia boasts the screen has ClearBlack technology, which consists of polarizing layers of glass to help make blacks deeper and reduce reflections. It does the work to an extend. Then there is the "PureMotion HD+"-new addition, which reduces latency and guarantees 60FPS on animations. This also seems to work with sharp transitions with crisp motion while swiping around the Windows Phone 8 interface.

Nokia Lumia 920 has a gorgeous screen, similar to iPhone 5s Retina display. The touchscreen works with gloves on- as advertised. Lumia 920 offers crisp and sharp text and images- indoors as well as outdoors, with excellent viewing angles and sunlight legibility.

SOFTWARE / INTERFACE

The Nokia Lumia 920 runs on Windows Phone 8 and is upgradeable to Windows Phone 8 Amber version. Well, Speaking of Windows Phone 8- It offers fast and stable interface; but lacks sufficient apps. Microsoft is encouraging windows app development, Windows app store seriously suffers the lack of good quality apps(at least not in all areas!).

Windows Phone gives you standard calendar and alarm tools, Xbox gaming tie-ins, podcasts, multitasking, multiple inboxes, integrated social sharing, music identification, a barcode scanner, etc. and the mobile version of the Microsoft Office suite. As usual Nokia has bundled a lot of their own apps- most of which is obviously a nice addition. Nokia MixRadio for Windows Phone 8 is a free streaming music app that personalizes mixes to suit your tastes.

CAMERA

Nokia Lumia 920 sports a 8.7 MP Carl Zeiss rear camera with PureView technology. The camera also features optical image stabilization, video stabilization, dual-LED and other basic features. The rear camera can shoot videos of 1080p at 30fps and the front camera is just standard, but can shoot videos at 720p.

The camera app itself is pretty basic, with four options displayed on screen and no digital shutter key in sight. The physical shutter button on the right side of the Lumia 920 provides a more natural way of capturing photos and can get you easily and quickly to the camera app from anywhere on the phone.

MEMORY

Nokia Lumia 920 comes with 32GB internal storage and 1 GB RAM. 32GB should be enough for one! and there is no option for expanding memory with microSD card. Nokia provides 7GB of free SkyDrive cloud storage.

BATTERY

Battery life of Lumia 920 is just average and thats the major draw back of the device. The non-removable Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery (BP-4GW) does a decent job for light users. But battery drains extremely fast when a little heavy task is thrown at it. Theres also built-in wireless charging feature.

PERFORMANCE

The Nokia Lumia 920 suffered from no noticeable delays(not much) and handles pretty much everything you threw at it without any problems(of course, limit is there). Lumia 920 is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor along with 1GB RAM and Adreno 225 GPU.
